Rumour has it that governors are planning to install the next senate president as Amosun meets Shettima

Governor Ibukunle Amosun of Ogun State and Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno States

It appears the All Progressives Congress (APC) governors who won election to the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria are against the endorsement of Senator Ahmad Lawan as the next senate president of the 9th Assembly.

Governors Ibukunle Amosun and Kashim Shettima of Ogun and Borno States respectively were seen engaging in a discussion that lasted one hour on Tuesday during an orientation programme for newly elected federal lawmakers in Abuja.

Report has it that their discussion was connected to the Senate Presidency matter.

The ruling APC had endorsed Senator Ahmad Lawan to emerge as the Senate President of the 9th Assembly.

The National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, had in a statement weeks ago threatened that the party’s decision must be obeyed no matter how highly ranked any member is in the party.

Rumours have it that serving governors and former governors were plotting to apparently go against the decision of the ruling party and install the next senate president.

Senator Lawan’s main challenger is Ali Ndume, a senator from Borno State.

Ndume had since rejected his party’s decision to support Lawan and vowed to contest the position even without his party’s support.

He however noted that many senators-elect were working for his victory despite crowd of senators-elect that is always seen following Lawan.
